The short version
- No accounts, no sign-up forms, no newsletter on this site.
- No cookies, and no analytics or advertising trackers.
- Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, such as IP address and browser type, to run and protect the Site.
- Repo pages load a preview image from GitHub, so GitHub sees that request.
- Listings show public GitHub usernames and arXiv author names. You can ask us to remove yours.
This summary is for convenience. The full text below is what applies.
01Who we are
textmining.tech (the “Site”) is operated by Artmap Inc. dba HackerNoon (“HackerNoon,” “we,” “us”), which is responsible for the personal data described in this policy. You can reach us at [email protected].
This policy covers this Site only. Other HackerNoon sites, such as hackernoon.com, have their own privacy policy.
02Information about visitors
The Site is a read-only directory. We don’t offer accounts, and we don’t ask you for your name, email address or any other personal details. In particular:
- No cookies or trackers. The Site doesn’t set cookies, and it doesn’t use analytics, advertising pixels or similar tracking technologies.
- Searches and filters stay in your browser. Searching, filtering and sorting happen entirely on your device, and what you type into the search box isn’t sent to us.
- Copy buttons stay local. “Copy” buttons, such as the git clone command, write only to your own clipboard when you click them.
- Fonts are self-hosted. We serve our fonts ourselves, so loading the Site doesn’t contact font providers such as Google Fonts.
03Server logs
Like nearly every website, the Site runs on a hosting provider whose servers automatically record basic technical details for each request. These details include your IP address, browser and device type, the page requested, the referring page and the time of the request.
These logs are used only to deliver the Site, keep it secure (for example, to detect abuse or attacks) and fix problems. They are kept for a limited period under the hosting provider’s standard retention, and we don’t use them to build profiles of visitors or sell them to anyone. Our legal basis for this processing, where one is required, is our legitimate interest in operating a secure website.
04Third-party content and links
Individual project pages display the project’s social preview image, which your browser loads directly from GitHub (opengraph.githubassets.com). When that happens, GitHub receives standard request information such as your IP address and browser type, and handles it under the GitHub Privacy Statement.
The Site also links to GitHub, arXiv, project homepages and HackerNoon. Once you follow a link, the destination’s own privacy policy applies, not this one.
05Information about people listed on the Site
The directory and research page show information that is already public. For projects, this is the GitHub username or organization that owns each repository, taken from the GitHub API. For papers, it is author names as published on arXiv, taken from the arXiv API. We don’t collect anything else about these people, and we don’t combine it with other data.
We process this information because we have a legitimate interest in helping people discover open source projects and research, and because it is limited to what the creators have chosen to publish. If your name or username appears on the Site and you’d like it removed or corrected, email [email protected] with the page link. We’ll exclude the listing from future updates, usually within a few days.
06Your rights
Depending on where you live, including the EU, UK, Switzerland, Brazil and some US states such as California, you may have the right to ask whether we hold personal data about you, and to access, correct or delete it, object to or restrict its processing, or receive a copy. We don’t sell personal data or share it for targeted advertising.
To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected]. Because we don’t run accounts or tracking, the main personal data we hold is the public listing information described above and short-lived server logs. You can also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
07Children
The Site is not directed to children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal data from them.
08Security and international transfers
The Site is served over HTTPS. HackerNoon is based in the United States, and our hosting provider may process server logs in the US or other countries, using appropriate safeguards where the law requires them.
09Changes to this policy
If we change how the Site handles data, for example by adding analytics, we’ll update this policy and the “Last updated” date at the top before the change takes effect.
